Party Poker Room Review

The Nuts: Huge traffic.  Weak Competition

The Muck:  Horrible software.

US Players?  No

Banking Options: Diners Club, IGMPay, VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard, NETeller, EntroPay, FirePay, wire transfer, bank transfer.

Once the 800 pound gorilla of the online poker world, Party Poker’s withdraw from the U.S. market has cost it both prestige and its number one traffic ranking.

Traffic (10):  Despite being passed by Poker Stars as the highest traffic poker room, Party Poker still has an impressive traffic volume, averaging 45,000 players online at a given time.

Game Selection (6): Party Poker has been slow in responding to demand for more exotic games, but there are plenty of tables available at all buy-ins for the games they do offer.

  • Fixed Limit Games:  $.02-$.04 to $250-$500
  • No Limit/Pot Limit Games:  $.02-$.04 to $25-$50
  • Sit and Go Tournament Buy-ins:  $1.00 to $350
  • Multi Table Tournament Buy-ins:  $1 to $580

Software Performance (3): Party Poker’s software is simply horrible. It’s glitchy and unreliable, frequently slowing down applications on even newer computers.

Graphics (5):  Party Poker’s graphics are tired and in need of an overhaul.  They’re still featuring the same stupid avatars that they’ve been using since inception, and there’s no option to change them.

Recently they’ve begun running ads at the bottom of their poker rooms. One ad features pictures of “single” girls at the bottom of the room that link you to a questionable dating site.  Are you kidding me?

Game play/interface (4):  Although the betting buttons are intuitive and well placed, Party Poker hasn’t kept up with the competition in terms of offering broader game play options.  About the only function offered is a very basic note taking option.

Competition (9): Party Poker’s strength remains its abundance of loose, fishy players.

Rewards/Promotions (2):  New deposits are offered nothing, but “lucky dollar tournaments” which offer no additional benefit other than the waiving of the tournament fee.

Party Poker awards Party Poker Points for playing raked hands and in tournaments. These points can be redeemed for cash or tournament buy-ins.  Party Poker used to have a store where you could exchange points for merchandise, but they closed it.

You can earn $50 for each person you refer through Party Poker’s tell-a-friend program.  New referrals must earn 100 points for you to earn your bonus.  Your referral will be given a bonus of $25.
