The 9 Most Common Mistakes of No Limit Texas Holdem
I will touch on what I perceive as the 9 most common no limit texas holdem pitfalls and what the solutions are to them.
It is a very simple common sense list.
You've probably heard about the 80/20 rule in marketing. It basically says that 80% of profits come from 20% of customers.
I think the same is true in anything. It might not be that exact 80/20 number but if you want to become an expert poker player and have a positive win rate then start by focusing on the most important things first.
My Top 9
The below list are things you should try your best to avoid.
- Playing too loose (getting involved with marginal hands)
- Disregarding the basics (playing solid, fundamental abc poker)
- Disregarding position
- Disregarding game selection
- Disregarding discipline (poker tilt)
- Disregarding bankroll management (bad poker planning)
- Disregarding resources to improve (poker teachers, forums etc)
- Blocking excellent advice because it doesn't fit into your world
- Not realizing that keeping it simple and keeping it real is the way to go.
The 9 Solutions
What then are the solutions to all these you might ask?
It's pretty simple, flip those over and you get the opposite of them.
- Playing solid tight & aggressive poker
- Focusing on the fundamentals intensely
- Worshipping position and sacrifcing fruits
- Have your own game selection rules and following them to a tee
- Identify your tilt and minimize it
- Have your own bankroll mangement rules and follow them!
- Use all the resources you can find to improve your game
- Welcome all criticism with an open mind (this is important)
- Be mindful of yourself and notice bad habits
Simplicity means the achievement of maximum effect with minimum means.
- Albert Einstein
Summary
Keep it simple would be my cliché advice.
And if you're ever having trouble with anything in poker, ask someone for help!
That is how I learned the game. If I didn't understand something I asked everyone until I got it.
