No Limit Holdem Books

No Limit Holdem books were a big part of my learning experience in the beginning. I literally went out and bought a ton of holdem books, everything I could find to be specific. Today I have over 35 poker books sitting on my shelves, most of them weren't great but they were worth the read.

If you're interested in what no limit holdem books are the best, which I assume you are since you are reading this page. Lucky for you, I have compiled the top three books you should read when starting no limit holdem.

You can also check out my poker book reviews for more reviews.

Don't worry if you do not feel like reading three books, I recommend you only read the first book I recommend and then take it from there. See if you like poker and if it might be something you want to pursue.

#1: Getting Started in Hold'em

Getting Started in Holdem BookThis is a great No Limit Holdem book if you're starting out and great if you want to learn how to play poker online at the lower stakes. It is oriented towards the novice.

If you've just begun playing and just learned the rules, then by all means, this is the choice for you. It goes through some very good points. I've read it myself around January 2006 and I always like returning to the basics and brushing up.

The only problem I have with this book is that it is mostly on Limit Holdem. Which sucks, but I still think it is worth it to get the overall picture, because things you learn in the Limit Holdem pages help your understanding in No-Limit.

If you only buy one book, make it Getting Started in Hold'em because that way you will learn the basics in No Limit Holdem, Limit Holdem and Tournament Poker.

#2: Professional No-Limit Hold'em Vol.1

Professional No Limit Holdem BookThis is hands down one of the best No Limit Holdem books I have read to date. I just finished reading it a few days ago and it isn't mind blowing for seasoned players but I recommend that everyone at least skim through it!

It goes through a lot of very important concepts and contains a lot of material for beginners (especially the first half of the book).

Although I was not able to apply all of the concepts in the book, because of the nature of the games I play in. It still opened my mind and made me look at things from a new perspective.

It goes through topics like: Pot Odds, Outs, Discounted Outs, Implied Odds, Bet Sizes, Stack Sizes, Pot Size, Risk Versus Reward, How to Play a Big Pot, Position, Hand Reading, Fundamentals in Practice, The REM Process, Planning Hands and much more.

Overall if you've read Getting Started in Hold'em I would highly recommend this as your second book.

#3: Theory of Poker

Theory of Poker BookTheory of Poker is a great book for No Limit Holdem as well as any other poker game. It is heavy in theory and might not be for the beginner, but if you are interested in poker and can't wait to eat up everything you can get your hands on then this book might be for you.

I personally had trouble reading it when I was a beginner, but nowadays I really enjoy it because it outlays the concepts of playing winning poker. If you can grasp the concepts in this book and apply them at the poker table then you will have no trouble winning.

It contains chapters like: The Value of Deception, Bluffing, The Slow-Play, The Value of Position, Psychology, Heads-Up Play, Game Theory, Implied Odds, The Free Card and Semi-Bluffing.

Many of today’s top poker players will tell you that this is the book that really made a difference in their play. That is, these are the ideas that separate the experts from the typical players. Those who read and study this book will literally leave behind those who don’t, and most serious players wear the covers off their copies. This is the best book ever written on poker.
