How Do You Adjust To Live Poker Games?

Question:

Do you play exactly the same in live poker games as online? I'd like you to show
how a hand/game might be played both ways -- online and live.

Also, I'm having difficulty translating my aggressive Internet play to live
poker tables because I allow the "boys" to intimidate and distract me.

It really is different play when no one knows you -- if you are male or female. Can
you suggest a strategy to overcome this?

Mary

Answer:

Great questions!

Unfortunately I don't have a ton of live experience since the nearest casino from me is 12 hours away.

But I have a few suggestions. Try to think about why they intimidate you, are they insecure of themselves? Most of them are.

And if you are in a hand with them and they are trying to make you passive, ask yourself why they are doing that. What is their reason? Maybe they have a weak hand?

I also think that with experience you will get used to the boys trying to intimidate you. It's kind of like buying a new painting. The first week you stop when you walk by it and marvel at its beauty.

Second week, not so much, maybe 50% marvel 50% just walk past.

Fourth week you don't even notice it, because it is so commonplace. I have a feeling the same might be true in live play, you just need more experience.

As to adapting for live play, I would say just think about the players and how you would adapt to them online. Live players are usually alot worse than online players so you probably have to play tighter because no one will fold.

But once again, I cannot help you so much there. It is up to you to adapt to the players, see how they react and learn their patterns.

Hope this helped!

Always fun hearing from my readers :)

Have a nice day,
Henri
