Software Performance (5): The recent upgrade has made Absolute poker much faster, but there’s still a longer pause between hands than at most sites, and memories of the 2007 scandal in which “super user” accounts could see everyone’s hole cards still linger.
Graphics (9): Absolute offers a choice of 3 different player views – top view, quarter view and classic. Very nice.
Bets are displayed both by chip stack and by dollar amount. The pot amount is hard to read due to its location above the table when in the classic view, but otherwise everything is clean and crisp.
Players can upload avatars to their tables if they choose.
Game play/interface (6): Absolute’s home page is a mess with text overlapping in some parts. It’s also very difficult to find what you need. The lobby is easy to navigate, however.
One weird thing about Absolute is that its betting options are in the opposite order of all the other poker sites. The slider bar used to place bets with is somewhat clunky as well.
Hand histories, note taking ability, chat block, and session stats are all included in Absolute’s package. There is also an instant replay function that I found to be rather useless.
Competition (6): Players at Absolute tend to be pretty tight. Swimming in these waters requires patience.
Rewards/Promotions (6): Absolute offers a 100% deposit bonus up to $500, but the terms aren’t great. For each raked hand (minimum rake of $0.50) you play and reach the flop, you will receive 1 point. You will also receive 1 point for each $1 of tournament buy-in fee. Once you have 30 points $5 is released to you. You have 2 months to clear the money in your pending account.
They also offer a refer-a-friend program that awards you $75 and your referral $50 if he deposits and plays in at least 200 real money raked hands.
